Job Description: Tooling Engineer (Mechanical)
Position Overview:
The Tooling Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of tooling systems used in the manufacturing and production processes. This role requires proficiency in mechanical engineering principles, project management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure efficient tooling solutions. The Tooling Engineer (Mechanical) will contribute to enhancing productivity, quality, and safety within the manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop tooling systems and related components for manufacturing processes, considering cost, feasibility, and efficiency.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and production personnel to gather requirements and ensure effective tooling solutions.
3. Conduct research and analysis to identify new technologies, materials, and processes that can improve tooling systems.
4. Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create detailed tooling designs, considering functional requirements and manufacturing constraints.
5. Create and maintain detailed documentation, including drawings, specifications, and instructions to facilitate the manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance of tooling systems.
6. Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to identify potential issues and propose solutions for tooling design challenges.
7. Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to source, evaluate, and select tooling components or systems, ensuring compliance with quality standards and cost-effectiveness.
8. Perform testing and validation of tooling systems, analyzing results and implementing necessary modifications to optimize performance.
9. Manage tooling projects, including planning, scheduling, and monitoring progress to ensure timely and successful completion.
10. Provide technical support and guidance to production teams, troubleshooting tooling-related issues and implementing corrective actions.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a Tooling Engineer or similar role within a manufacturing environment.
3. Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including tooling design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
4. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve tooling design challenges.
6. Understanding of project management principles and experience in managing tooling projects.
7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
8. Attention to detail and ability to work with precision to ensure accurate tooling designs.
9. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results.
